Editors Concert Tomavistas

Editors will be at Tomavistas playing a set reviewing their entire career. A career full of hits with post-punk sound from their beginnings as well as with industrial electronics references from their latest works. A collection of songs that they will bring to the stage of our festival in their comeback to Madrid with a totally unique and lively concert.

Editors have never been a band that does what is expected from them. When they emerged in the early 2000s, with founding members Tom Smith, Russell Leetch and Ed Lay (Justin Lockey and Elliott Williams would later be added as official members), many things were yet to be defined. These university friends from Birmingham found themselves encompassed by a wave of independent groups that embraced the first post-punk revival in very diverse ways: Interpol, Franz Ferdinand and Bloc Party, which in turn paid tribute to Joy Division, The Cure and Echo & the Bunnymen. But album after album, they included different plot twists that shaped a unique career in many ways.

Their album debut, “The Back Room”, which was shortlisted for the Mercury Prize in 2005, was primarily a guitar album. After it, they released “An End Has A Start” in 2007, their second work and with which they reached the number one in the UK charts. In this second album they focused their sound on synths and after it, four more albums came: “In This Light and On This evening” (2009), where we can find the celebrated hit “Papillon”; “The Weight of your Love” (2013); “In Dream” (2015), an album that made them to reach the peak of their career; and “Violence” (2018).

Up to that point they told a story, but they couldn’t keep telling the same narrative again without trying other things. That’s why in 2022 they released their seventh album titled “EBM” full of exciting, relentless and dense electro-industrial rock. Benjamin John Power, also known as Blanck Mass, who co-produced the album, also joined the band as an official member and they updated their sound in a quite effective and enjoyable way, closing a circle that encompasses post-punk, alternative rock, synthpop and industrial background with its robust and dark dramatic side, strobe lights, smoke machines and the elegant interpretative skills of their lead singer. All of this has led them to become one of the most relevant bands in the United Kingdom in the last two decades and this year they will come to Tomavistas to prove it.
