The Beths are a four-piece band from New Zeland. The band channel their guitar pop spirit into a high-energy dose and a smart lyrical bite. Guitarist, lead vocalist, and primary songwriter is Elizabeth Stokes who attended secondary school with guitarist Jonathan Pearce before meeting bassist Benjamin Sinclair and drummer Ivan Luketina-Johnston at the University of Auckland, where all four studied jazz. After gigging together in different bands, the quartet came together for a project exploring the pop and rock sounds of their youth. Everything clicked and The Beths were born. Their 2016’s debut EP “Warm Blood” overflows with explosive guitar riffs and infectious indie-rock hooks. It was produced by Pearce and it had great reviews from musical press of New Zeland.
Last August they released their powerful and full-of-instant-hits debut album, “Future Hates Me”, sponsored by Carpark Records, the label which Beach House made their debut with and which has released albums of Cloud Nothings, Toro y Moi or Dan Deacon. Their first record has brought them the opportunity to support Death Cab For Cutie as part of their European tour. 2019 will be a very successful year for The Beths. Fans of artists such as Sleater-Kinney or Best Coast should remain vigilant and enjoy the band on their very first visit to Madrid in their short career.
