The existence of Jessy Lanza makes us trust that the electro pop that is sophisticated, ethereal and loaded with synthesizers that amalgamate rhythm and melody in equal parts, intersecting with the R&B, is safe in her hands.
Jessy comes from Hamilton, Ontario (Canada) and in Tomavistas will present her third album from which some of the singles have already been released. Prior to this work, this new goddess of pop has released two albums with Hyperdub, one of the most experimental labels on the market: “Pull My Hair Back” (2013) and “Oh No” (2016). Jessy is a regular contributor of Jeremy Greenspan (Junior Boys) and also was on Caribou’s album “Our Love”, where she contributed with her great vocal skills in the song “Second Chance”. On some occasions Jessy has cited Missy Elliott, Timbaland or Ryuichi Sakamoto among her influences. This is something that shows her open-mindedness to make her sound introspective, silky and friendly to the dance floor where she has already forged her own niche as well proves her great hit “Oh No”.
Her new album is expected as her possible definitive step to swell that list of those essential artists chosen to take electronics to a new dimension and become one of the most prominent artists in 2020. Our bet is that she will achieve it. We hope to be right.
