Canadian trio Austra have been acting as the best international reference of electro-pop art like Kate Bush for a decade since 2009. Excellent reviews were given to their debut LP, “‘Feel It Break’ (2011): “An undisputed monument. Best record of the year” (Toronto Star); “Best album of 2011” (New York Magazine); and so they have continued without lowering the level. About “Future Politics,” his latest and third album from 2017, New Musical Express said: “Like cold and pure water, it cleans mental trash, letting you feel alive again.” It could be said about their music that is between the synthetic and the Gothic, with the right point of 80s British new wave to evoke groups such as Japan or Soft Cell, but without going over retro.
Leading the band is vocalist Katie Stelmanis, an LGTB icon with an astonishing voice and an opera background that breathes drama and epic into the instrumental plot increasingly oriented to electronics. In April 2020 they will publish their fourth album (prior to the release of singles) that will be released under Domino record label and as we have had the opportunity to listen to it, we can tell you that it will be their masterpiece and their performance in Tomavistas will be one of the highest points of the Festival history
